German Film Producing Constantin Medien Facing Sales Slump
While I will state that most German productions haven’t truly been up-to-par in the last few years, it is sad to see that the German film producer Constantin Medien is facing a 20% fall in their revenue for the first half of 2015. This is mostly due to the lack of any major film productions being released over the course of the year through which they only were able to manage €195.7 million in the first six months.[1]
The second half o the year
might be able to win back the loss with major German-language releases of Suck
Me Shakespeer 2, which is a film title that hurts my brain and the adaptation
of Look Who’s back, a German film about Hitler waking up in modern day Berin
trying to start a new career as a TV comedian. Like I stated before, the German
production companies have made some odd choices in films as of late, but it
seems they prove to be profitable.
This does sadly highlight
an issue I have with German and Austrian productions, as they are extremely
focused on either releasing Til Schweiger films, which are profitable rom-coms
that are almost interchangeable, raunchy comedies focusing on very unlikable
characters, rom-coms in school settings with a rebellious teacher, or student,
or a film focusing on the 2nd World War. There are some breakout
films now and then, but the German and Austrian productions might need to
reconsider their strategies.
What do you think about the German productions? Leave
your thoughts below!
