A New Cop Comedy Pitch Titled "Pun-ishable by Law"
While reading a tweet from Brett Dalton asking if he could have his own show as he appears in the upcoming video game Until Dawn alongside Rami Malek, who had his own show in Mr. Robot. I only remember that Brett Dalton is a fan of puns, something he tends to write a lot when episodes of Agents of SHIELD air and something he quite frankly is very good at. So, my mind started turning and imagined what kind of show would be perfect for Brett Dalton? The result is probably the strangest concept I have ever thought of, but here is my pitch for a Brett Dalton-lead show titled “Pun-ishable by Law”.
Main Concept
What is the show about?
Well, the title already gives away the two main elements. It is a buddy cop
comedy similar to Brooklyn Nine-Nine, only that the main character has a
bizarre sense of humor. He tends to commonly look for a way to integrate puns
in any shape or form possible. This is naturally quite an ordeal to his
partner, who unwillingly is the only person in the precinct not to smack him
every time he makes a pun. This bizarre concept also opens up to the
opportunity to include a love interest that actually laughs at his jokes, much
to the dismay of his partner and everyone else at the precinct, as it only
encourages him to make more jokes and puns.
Show format
As I stated earlier this
could work similar to Brooklyn Nine-Nine, with the duo having to uncover
various cases that open up the possibility to jokes. Yet for this kind of humor
it probably would be smarter to keep it in shorter 10 minute segments rather
than draw it out over 22 minutes. The humor would only overstay its welcome and
could alienate the viewers. Using the classic comedy line-up this show could
potentially even work in animated form, maybe similar in style to Archer, which
is very effective at using clever variations of jokes such as “Language” or
“Sentencing”. The show manages to repeat them without feeling as if they are
overused, which would be important for “Pun-ishable by Law” so that jokes
aren’t repeated too often. This show could potentially work if it is kept short
and sweet.
This show might not see the
light of day, but it’s a concept that stuck in my head I couldn’t resist to
write it down and share. Maybe the idea will transform beyond just a simple
show concept, as unlike my previous Jurassic Park TV show on Netflix, I am not
100% sure how you could lay out the first two seasons, but maybe over time I’ll
think of something to add.

type of show? What would you want to see happen in it? Leave your thoughts
