[Arrow] #401 - Green Arrow
Arrow returns with a soft reboot, as Damien Darhk takes over Star City, formerly Starling City, as Oliver Queen is forced to return to the life he tried to leave behind. As he uncovers that some old wounds are still not truly healed with his strained relationship with Diggle and it seems that even Felicity wasn’t able to truly settle down in a normal life as much as Oliver was hoping for. Things seem to be changing for everyone as a new Star City takes shape, which also forces the former Arrow to take over a new guise to further his conquest.

Warning!
Well, as much as they have described it as a soft reboot for
the franchise, it seemed pretty much like it’s usual self to me. Jokes were
thrown in here and there as they always were, and the villain Damien kind of
does push it back into the darker realm it had been in for quite some time. I
didn’t really feel much difference between this and last season, as too me the most
comedy came from Felicity, who had this role this time around as well. Still,
it was nice to see that Oliver is a bit more light-hearted and seeing him
actually wanted to ask for Felicity’s hand is a nice touch, one that many
Olicity fans must have been waiting for since the beginning.
Let us talk about Damien, who is an interesting yet odd
addition. I understand that with the amount of meta humans over at The Flash it
would make sense that even Oliver has to face more mystic elements, but going
from Rha’s Al Ghul, who had no true abilities except healing himself to a man
who can literally control arrows in the sky was quite an odd choice. Seeing him
make a blood sacrifice might show that he has given his soul to a devil due to
his rivalry with Rhas, but there was no true sign of that. Hell, he didn’t even
notice the fact that this new “Arrow” guy was the same one that Rha’s was
trying to recruit last season. Just seemed extremely odd to me.
Also, how does no one notice that the supposedly dead
“Arrow” is exactly the same like Green Arrow. I understood the broadcast at the
end, but actually calling himself the Green Arrow was a bit strange. Don’t get
me wrong, it was an interesting scene and was well done, but I personally
wished that he was simply called the Green Arrow, as Speedy has been trying to
get people to call her the Red Arrow, so it would not have surprised me if they
simply started calling the new Arrow the Green Arrow.
On the subject of Thea Queen, it was nice to see that her
dip in the Lazarus Pit has some repercussions, but she didn’t seem at all
phased by it. She almost seems too
happy about all the violence happening around her, something that wasn’t quite
the way she was last season. She seemed more serious after having to learn
everything she did from her real father, but to see her at such glee seemed a
bit off. That pretty much sums up this entire episode to me personally. I quite
enjoyed it, but to a certain degree it felt a bit strange at times, as it tried
to be what Arrow always was while trying to take a lighter tone. It just feels
like some elements don’t quite mix as well as they should.
The biggest spoiler here is the ending reveal. It seems that
someone is going to definitely die this season, but with a confirmation that
Sarah Lance returning it seems a bit off, but they could explain that with the
fact that the pit does affect people in strange ways. Still, after him secretly
keeping the ring for Felicity behind his back, it almost seems like a
confirmation that Felicity is going to die this season. While it could also
potentially be Diggle, the way the scene played out with a Barry Allen cameo
just almost seemed like a confirmation to me personally, but we will see where
this is heading.
