Has Thor: Ragnarok Found Its Director?
It seems that Marvel Studios are already on a look-out for the director of their (so far) last installment for the Thor trilogy, Ragnarok. While many would consider the Thor franchise the most underwhelming due to the stronger focus on earth away from Asgard, many assume that Ragnarok might take a completely new look at the franchise. While so far Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are set to return to the fantasy action films they are still on the lookout for a director.[1]
According to The Wrap, it seems they
might have found one in Taika Waititi, who is famous for his involvement in
Flight of the Conchords. While no official word has been given by Marvel, it
certainly is a possibility when one considers that the rumors surrounding a
potential Black Panther director have turned out to be true, while the
negotiations have sadly haulted due to creative differences.
Waititi is quite a interesting
choice that echoes Marvel’s decision to hire Joe and Anthony Russo to direct
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A director coming out of the small screen
and directing small comedies seems like a bold choice and could potentially pay
off for the studio if he proves to be just as creative as the Russo brothers
turned out to be.
