It seems Agents of SHIELD might be following one of my theories by having the third season being a fusion between elements from the first two seasons, as an old face will find himself once again involved with the Agents of SHIELD. That isn’t all, as we will also find out more regarding Melinda May’s family, as after her mother being revealed in the first season, we will now in fact meet her father. The official press release sounds as follows:[1]

“Purpose in the Machine” – Fitz and the team enlist the aid of an Asgardian to unlock the secrets of the ancient monolith that swallowed Simmons, and Agent May is at a crossroads in her personal and professional life, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Director Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Agent Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrianne Palicki as Agent Bobbi Morse, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie and Luke Mitchell as Lincoln Campbell.

Guest starring Blair Underwood as Dr. Andrew Garner, Peter MacNicol as Professor Elliott Randolph, Daz Crawford as Kebo, Spencer Treat Clark as Alexander, Alex Hyde-White as Lord Thornally, Daniel J. Wolfe as Lord Manzini, Piers Stubbs as younger lord, James Hong as William May and Darius Cottrell as Moe.

”Purpose in the Machine” was written by DJ Doyle and directed by Kevin Tancharoen.

Yes, Professor Elliott Randolph, played by Peter MacNicol, is in fact returning and I hope he might have a bigger role this season with a potential Asgardian joining the slowly establishing Secret Warriors.Furthermore, James Hong will be playing Melinda’s father and many will recognize him as the voice of Po’s father in Kung Fu Panda and even Mulan, where he played alongside Ming-Na Wen. With only one more week to go it will be interesting to see how the third season will start and I am still hoping to see the return of Ian Quinn alongside the open Gravitron sub-plot.

How do you feel about the returning character and new addition? Leave a comment below!
