It seems after a lot of speculation on how old this new incarnation of Spider-Man will be, it seems we were quite off. Even some recent reports stated he was active as Spider-Man for two years, but that might not be the case. According to Jon Watts, the director of the 2017 film he will in fact be just 15 years old, the age he became Spider-Man in the comics. “I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie. We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now.”[1]

He also stated that he was not going to kill off another incarnation of Uncle Ben, as he stated “There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben.” This is a nice sign that we aren’t going to rehash the origin story for a third time, but simply be thrust into a world with an already established Spider-Man, who is simply trying to figure out how to balance his life as a superhero and being a student. At least this time around he will stay in school for longer than just one film.

How do you feel about his new age? Looking forward to it? Leave a comment below!
