Colin Trevorrow has probably made himself one of the most sought after directors after Jurassic World managed to completely surprise and surpass all estimates at the Box Office this year, being one of the few films to pass $500 million at the national Box Office and passing The Avengers to become the third highest grossing film of all time.[1] While one could naturally argue the film’s quality, it still is quite an impress feat by a director who only directed a small indie picture Safety Not Guaranteed before tackling the famous franchise. It was only a matter of time until the director would announce his next work and it seems that Disney is proud to announce him as the director for the upcoming Star Wars Episode IX film, closing off the new trilogy.[2]

According to producer Kathleen Kennedy: “Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed. The power of that film paired with the enormous success of Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller and skilled film-maker.”

Trevorrow himself stated that “It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, film-makers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation, because they deserve what we all had – a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens to be released this Christmas, it will be certainly interesting to see in which direction this franchise is heading. Each sequel will have two years separating them and the addition of Star Wars Anthologies, or Stories coming out focusing on Rogue One, Han Solo or even Boba Fett, it will be interesting for Star War fans in the upcoming years.
