Marvel Studios Restructures Its Leadership?
Something Marvel and Business related? It must be my lucky day! It seems that Marvel Studios has been reorganizing itself so that its president, Kevin Feige, no longer has to report to the CEO of Marvle Entertainment, Isaac „Ike“ Perlmutter. This in turn also creates a stronger relationship between the company and Disney, as from this point on the film company will report directly to Disney Studio chief Alan Horn.[1]
On one side, this certainly
proves that Kevin Feige is a force to reckon with, as he as acting president alongside
Louis D’Esposito as co-president, managed to create quite a reputation thanks
to the success of their Marvel film slate. On the other, this is also a sign of
an estranged relationship with Perlmutter, who has been noted to be quite a
micromanager.
The low-profile billionaire contributed
to Marvel’s reputation in Hollywood and was also the driving force behind ist very
famous secrecy and frugalty, even going as far as to secretly disguise himself
to enter the Iron Man premiere back in 2008 adn complaining that journalists at
the press junket were given two sodas instead of one.
There is a downside tough, as
Jeph Loeb, the head of Marvel Television, still has to reptort to Perlmutter,
who maintaints his oversight of Marvel’s TV group, publishing, animation and
other New York-based operations.
Could this be a new turn for the
company? It might certainly allow Kevin Feige to make more impromptu decisions
and could even allow them to further enhance their upcoming film slate, maybe a
potential to see a sequel to this years Ant-Man afterall. My only issue ist hat
Marvel Television is still considered a seperate entity even though technically
Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter and the Netflix series are all part of teh
Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, this is a small victory and could potentially
lead to a new future with the TV department being fused together with Marvel
Studios.
What are your opinions on the matter? Leave a comment below and what this
could potentially mean for the future of Marvel Studios?
