[Once Upon A Time] #503 - Siege Perilous
This week on Once Upon A Time, we are following a story that actually gives us a closer look into not only King Arthur, but also David, who has been sidelined quite a lot over the course of the show. Allowing him to bond over with Arthur while back in Storybrooke we find out that Swan is still in love with Hook, who is having a hard time adjusting to the reality that his beloved has turned evil. Something he had been trying to flee his whole life after making one mistake that haunted him all his life. Yet the question remains if the story keeps it interesting?
Hey,
look at this little thing here. Yep, it’s a Spoiler Warning and I am certainly
running out of ideas, so I apologize.
This truly was more of a episode focused on David, which I
thought was a great touch. King Arthur grew up in a similar manner to David, so
them bonding over that fact was fantastic and a nice callback to Lancelot was a
nice touch as well, who will probably come back at a later point to bring this
storyline full circle. While the lake soldiers were interesting, it was nothing
more than a hindrance, which I wished was looked at in a bit more detail to
uncover their history. Then him taking a seat at the roundtable was even more
interesting, as it felt like a nice touch. Well, at least that is the entire
play the episode was giving us.
One massive mystery was if one could trust Arthur or not.
After a short cameo by Lancelot (I told you he’d bring it full circle) and a
few scenes of him forcing one of his men to lie in his hand, which shows that
Arthur is actually a villain due to his obsession with Camelot. Even going so
far as to want to build one in Storybrooke, which I thought was hilarious when
you consider the fact that it would stick out quite a lot in the middle of the
U.S. It seems Arthur has gone completely insane with not truly the power, but
his obsession of Camelot itself and I am quite curious to see how it plays out.
Could this maybe be what Emma is truly trying to avoid?
Speaking of Emma, the little scene between her and Hook
spoke volumes of how much they have evolved. I also love the fact that he is
bonding with Robin Hood, as they both have some issues with having had romantic
feelings with an evil person, or at least in Hood’s place impregnating a wicked
one. It turning out that she was actually using him to get her hands on the
sword that originally touched Rumpelstilzkin before he turned into the Dark One
was also a nice touch, but her being the one to wake him up was certainly an interesting
twist. Poor old Rumpeltilzkin is being abused and his love for Belle is putting
him in a tight spot.
Surprisingly, this episode was very focused with barely any
true subplots as it truly focused more on David and revealing that Arthur is
actually more than he seems. I’ll be honest, this was actually a fantastic
reveal, as up to this point we had either redeemable villains or just pure darkness,
but now we even are facing an evil man with noble goals, at least what seems to
be so at first. While the author was also a normal man, he was a bit more
selfish, which made a lot of sense for the character he was portraying. Still,
a great episode and very curious where they are heading.
