Kingdom Hearts 3 News Round-Up

I have to confess that I am a gigantic fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, as not only have I grown up with pretty much every installment except for Birth By Sleep, as I didn’t own a PSP at the time, but because the combination of Disney and Final Fantasy characters just fascinated me. I fondly remember playing the first two games of the main series and I still love playing them to this day, one of a few series that I can constantly replay without it losing any of its charm. And, as most fans of the series, have been heavily anticipating the release of the last game in the so-called „Darkseeker“ saga ending the story behind Xehanort. With the game slowly closing on an actual release date, the director Tetsuya Nomura is starting to tease what is heading our direction, so here is a small news round up.

An Ever-Expanding Gameplay
According to several articles[1] and interviews with the direction, the third installment is heavily influenced by Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, that I personally actually felt like the bridge between the second and the third games. They are bringing back the way you move your character, which one was able to see in the trailer at E3 this year, an element I actually quite enjoyed from that installment as it forced the creators to expand the universe, something it seems they have done in this installment, something we also were able to see in the trailer for the for now confirmed worlds of Tangled and small glimpses of Hercules.

Furthermore, what probably caught most people’s attention was Sora’s keyblades turning into new types of weapons and it seems that there is actual a story element to why they transform, which actually could expand the mythology behind the series. It seems they were able to utilize the Unreal Engine 4 as much as possible to ensure the best possible experience.

An Ever-Growing Universe
It seems that there are also rumors regarding which Disney world will be added to the upcoming game with some that might please some fans. The list contains Robin Hood, Big Hero 6, Monsters Inc., Frozen (of course) and even some rumors surrounding Star Wars.[2] The later was hinted at by the co-director Tai Yasue and wouldn’t be such a strange thing to see happen, as Disney owns the rights to the characters and Star Wars: The Force Awakened is heading our direction in December of this year. Sadly there are still no more worlds mentioned, as I personally hope to see the addition of Wreck-It-Ralph! as well as the return of the Tron Legacy world from Dream Drop Distance, as I loved the visual style of that film.

And A Release Date Closing in!
That is not all that has been reported regarding Kingdom Hearts 3, as it seems that we might have some more information regarding the release date. It seems that the official release date will go public at the D23 Expo in Japan on November 3, 2015. Rumors have it as of now that the release will be in the Winter of 2016, as there was a closed door presentation at the E3 this year with a secret game trailer.[3]
