Could We Have Lost Kevin Feige Due To A Civil War?
As they always say, news sometimes floods in like an avalanche and Marvel Studios has been the center of attention the last few days, as not only is its upcoming Luke Cage show starting production under the title “Tiara”, which is a nod to the characters original costume, but also due to a complete restructuring of the company from within. It now seems that most news articles up to this point have only scatched the surface of what has been going on behind the scenes at Marvel Studios, which now lead us to finding out that Captain America: Civil War could have almost ruined the company.[1]
It seems that what at first looked
like a managerial nightmare was even worse, as it seems to be a long-brewing
civil war between Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Marvel Entertainment CEO
Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter. The third installment of Captain America seems to have
forced the two to fight over the film, which has now completed its production
in Georgia and being situated in Burbank, California it was slowly leaning more
towards Disney rather than Marvel Entertainment.
As many might have predicted, the
budget grew accordingly with the ever-growing cast that turned a Captain
America film into the Avengers 2.5., but the infamously frugal Perlmutter
wanted to keep the budget lower. This slowly sounds like that most creative
differences were not only due to the differences from the Creative Committee,
which is also situated in New York, but also due to extreme budget constraints
set by New York’s headquarters.
Believe that this is all? No, as it
seemed Kevin Feige almost considered leaving Marvel Studios due to these
massive restraints in film making from a group of people, whose expertise all
come from outside the film industry. While Disney CEO Bob Iger managed to
ensure the fact that he staid on by allowing him to report to Horn instead.
Now, hopes is that Marvel might be a bit more flexible when it comes to the
industry, but also that the company is free from the reign.
