Is A Deadpool Sequel Already Planned?

Well, it seems that the positive reaction behind the trailer of Fox’s upcoming Deadpool film might not only have garnered the attention of the general audience, but also of the studio executives, as it seems Simon Kinberg has already confirmed that a potential sequel is already set in productions after them seeing the first rough cut of the film.[1]

“I have seen a rough cut of Deadpool and it’s fantastic. It’s a really good movie. It delivers on the promise of the trailer...We really committed and leaned into it being R-rated. It’s just darker and edgier and weirder in the best way – like Deadpool should be – than any other movie in that genre.” says Kinberg. “We certainly are talking about the sequel – we were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that’s from a serialized source material, you hope that it’s the first of many...But yeah feeling good about it, we’re all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel.” He even goes on to elaborate that we could potentially see Cable make an appearance in the upcoming sequel.

This already shows how sequel productions go very early into production before the film is even finished, which could also be why Fantastic Four already could also potentially have a sequel in production. Only thing is, for quite some time the entire reason Deadpool was in production hell was due to the fact of it being an R-rated film, so it is a natural PR reaction to use the fact that it is one of the few R-rated superhero films in quite some time as a way to promote the film.

What do you think of this? Looking forward to the film? Leave a comment!
