Will Christopher Nolan Make Akira Finally Happen?

Probably one of the most dreaded production hell’s stories surrounds the American adaptation of the film that jumpstarted the Anime craze in the United States, but never managed to actually get adapted in Live Action. For quite some time the biggest issue was surrounding the fact that creating Neo-Tokyo would have cost a fortune way beyond the usual $200 million for big Blockbuster films. Scripts have been in and out of development for years now and the last few years we saw another uprise in interest in the project, only for rumors stating it would take all concepts and insert them into the United States turning Neo-Tokyo into Neo-Manhattan and the only Asian actor on set was going to be Ken Watanbe.[1]

Yes, this is truly a production history only rivaled by the one surrounding Duke Nukem Forever, but it seems that interest for the film has once again spiked, only this time with a big name attached to it. It seems that The Dark Knight’s director Christopher Nolan has been meeting with an unnamed filmmaker lately. This in tandem with reports that Nolan already has a film slated for July 2017, will rise interest to see him take over in directing the franchise.

That isn’t all, as it seems they are interested in turning the Anime adaptation into a trilogy of films, which some could see as anegative idea due to the recent backlash of the book The Hobbit being turned into a trilogy, but maybe they would actually be closer to the original Manga, the Japanese graphic novel that was the inspiration for the Anime, which was only an adaptation of the first half of the graphic novel, so there is enough material to adapt.
