Is Lionsgate and Starz Merging?

It seems that the production company Lionsgate is trying to slowly build upon its foundation it has build with its successful “The Hunger Games” franchise. It seems they are currently in talks to merge with the movie channel Starz. As of now it is just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, but if these two companies merge together it would certainly make them a formidable media company within the industry.[1]

It seems that it also cements the plans of billionaire John Malone, who aims to unite the entertainment industry by taking over smaller standalone producers of television and films, which he describes as “free radicals”.

This act certainly proves that smaller corporations are having a hard time trying to survive long enough before larger conglomerations purchase them. This move seems to have been foreshadowed as Malone took over a minority in stake of Lionsgate and the fact that he also backs Starz.
